Lumbar Rhizotomy is a non-surgical procedure of electrode cauterization of the irritated median branch nerve block areas that are identified to be the cause of the pain in the lumbar region. The cauterization of the lesion areas of medial branch block using the cannula and electrode prevents the signals of the pain to the brain. Lumbar rhizotomy procedure is done only after adequate anesthesia is given by anesthesiologist. The duration of lumbar rhizotomy procedure is generally 30 to 60 minutes. People usually return to normal activities within couple of days following lumbar rhizotomy.
