How to Alleviate the Pain of the Poor and Needy
When you’re struggling to make ends meet day in, day out, life can be a painful experience that’s plagued with hardship. It’s very easy to ignore the privileges we have and focus on our personal pain; however, a lot of us are in better positions than we realize. Many of us have roofs over our heads and ready access to food and water, which is a lot more than can be said for the poorest and neediest individuals across the globe. It’s safe to say that many of us could do a lot more to alleviate the pain of the poor and needy globally; detailed below are just some of the ways in which we can make a difference.
Donate to Charity
We often hear the phrase, “money isn’t everything”, and while that’s true, it can solve a lot of problems for people globally. In some cultures, it’s compulsory to share your wealth with those who need it more than you. For instance, in Islam, Muslims are required to pay a yearly “tax” on their wealth, otherwise known as Zakat 2023. This describes an obligation in which Muslims must donate a certain percentage of their wealth to the needy. By donating to charity, you’re able to provide those in need with shelter, clean water, food, healthcare, and many more things that can alleviate their pain.
Use Social Media
Social media has somewhat of a bad reputation, but it can actually be a very powerful tool when used correctly. Take the term “influencer”, for example – the clue is in the name. Influencers have the power to influence the behavior of other people. While Instagram is full of beauty, fashion, fitness, travel, and food influencers, they have the power to take it one step further. It could be the case that these people could turn into “goodwill influencers”, harnessing the power to encourage others to do good. It’s safe to say that this would be ideal for alleviating the pain of those in need.
Raise Awareness
Not everyone has the financial capacity to ease the pain of those in need, but almost anyone can raise awareness. This is just as important as making actual financial contributions, as it ensures that as many people are familiar with the cause as possible. Most people are more than happy to help do their bit for charity; they just sometimes need to be awakened to global issues. As previously mentioned, social media is a great tool for spreading awareness and influencing others to follow in your footsteps. Social media is arguably one of the most powerful forms of raising awareness.
Inform Yourself
Before you can go about raising the awareness of others, you must first inform yourself about global issues. This is one of the simplest ways to help those in need, yet it’s one that’s so underestimated. It can be very difficult to admit you don’t know something and actually take the steps to learn more about a certain topic. Despite this, this is something that needs to be done if you want to make a genuine difference in alleviating pain for the needy on a global scale.
Contact Congress
Last but not least, you can get in touch with Congress. Each person in the US has three representatives in Congress whom you can share your concerns with. If just seven people do this, it’s enough to make the Congressperson change their mind. While it may sound intimidating and confusing, it’s actually a very straightforward process. Congresspeople want to serve the US so they’re likely to listen.
