Why Does My Right Side of the Abdomen Hurt After Drinking Alcohol?

If you have a routine of drinking alcohol daily in excess and then you are experiencing pain on the right side of your abdomen or the right flank, then you need immediate medical attention. Pain in the right side of the abdomen which often radiates around to the back indicates that the discomfort is being caused due to excessive consumption of alcohol. The discomfort is caused in the abdominal areas of liver or pancreas. Flank pain as it is called often occurs in the right abdominal side and it can be the symptom of many illnesses or diseases. Even though it is difficult to understand initially often the flank pain is caused due to daily alcohol consumption.

The liver is one of the most sorted organs of our body. The liver filters out toxins of from our body and also repairs itself if damaged a little. Even though our livers can handle alcohol, there is a limit on how much an organ can bear. If the alcohol consumption is excess, then the liver slowly degrades in its function and finally fails. More than 18,000 people are awaiting liver transplant in United States. Since the liver has no connecting nerve endings, the pain directly does not come from the liver. Due to which by the time the real problem is diagnosed often the organ is doomed. The dull pain in the right side of the abdomen arises as the liver starts to get swollen up and the inflamed liver starts applying pressure on the nerve endings of the nearby sensitive abdominal organs. If you are a dreaded drinker and you daily undergo a pain in the right side of the abdomen often the reason is that your liver has swollen up highly and is applying pressure to the nearby organs.

If your liver is totally damaged then a liver transplant is the only option to treat yourself. In order to ahead of the line, early diagnosis is required. Often the doctors find that the reason behind the right side abdominal pain is not due to liver cirrhosis, but due to scarring within the walls of the liver. This situation can be treated without having to undergo any complicated surgery. If alcohol is consumed in a large amount daily then several complications may arise. In order to treat any kind of liver damage, if you have to choose to give up alcohol. The procedure for preventing yourself from consuming alcohol is to decrease its amount as you consume it and slowly fading the habit away.

You may often choose to ignore the pain because you might think that a serious damage will definitely cause a serious pain and the pain would not be described as a dull ache. Often it also happens that you may not feel any pain, but realize that something is wrong. Sometimes the effect of alcoholism makes you feel uncomfortable to sleep while lying on your right side or you feel that there is a hard lump in the bed due to which your right side cannot tough the bed. The mild pain on the right side of the abdomen indicates that the composition within the liver is affected. Alcohol can be helpful to an extent if taken in small amounts and many drinks that we consume contain a certain percentage of alcohol. Your liver can take in a lot of abuse, but you must not waste time thinking the pain you are undergoing is caused due to something else.
