    The poison ivy dermatitis is an allergic reaction that is caused when our skin comes in contact with the leaf surface of the poison ivy plant, that has Urushiol. This is an individual’s allergic response to the chemical and it is thus, not considered to be contagious. It does not spread like an infectious disease from person to person. Most individuals with poison ivy will have the rash and other symptoms of poison ivy dermatitis, that would last anywhere from 1-3 weeks and then they will gradually resolve.
