The survival rate for a particular disease condition is based on research conducted on the number of people that have had this condition in the last five years and how many of them have recovered completely or were not able to come through the disease. Thus, survival rates are only estimates and may not present an accurate picture for a particular disease condition.
For bladder cancer, the survival rate of an individual depends on the stage of the cancer, how early was it diagnosed and how effective the treatment has been.
Additionally, the age and overall health of the individual also affect the overall prognosis of an individual with Bladder Cancer. The survival rate of an individual differs on a case to case basis. According to latest studies, the five year survival rate for an individual with Bladder Cancer diagnosed at an early stage is approximat6ely 80% while the 10 year survival rate dips to about 75%. The 15 year survival rate for an individual with Bladder Cancer is about 62%.
The above data is of people diagnosed as long back as 15 years ago with Bladder Cancer. However with new techniques available now to treat such conditions the numbers vary quite significantly.
The survival rate of an individual can also be calculated based on the stage of the cancer. For an individual with stage 0 Bladder Cancer, the survival rate is approximately 97%. For stage 1 Bladder Cancer, the 5 year survival rate comes down to around 90%. For stage II Bladder Cancer, the 5 year survival rate dips down further to about 65%.
For advanced stage Bladder Cancer, the 5 year survival rate is about 45%. The survival rate for individuals where Bladder Cancer has spread to other parts of the body the 5 year survival rate is down to approximately 15% even though treatments are still available for such patients to increase longevity.
