  1. Swelling of the Lymph Nodes

    Swelling of the lymph nodes can cause right sided underarm pain. These are small and oval tissues located all over the body but majorly in armpits, groin and the neck. Some major causes of your lymph nodes swelling include; infection in your body resulting from viruses, bacteria’s and parasites. Some other factors making your lymph nodes to swell include cancer and rheumatoid arthritis which is an autoimmune disorder. All these causes pain in your right underarm.

  2. Straining of Muscles

    Overstraining your arm muscles can cause right sided underarm pain. One of the major muscles found in your chest is pectoralis. If you perform any intense muscle and lack warm ups, the muscle might be injured. Although this might be serious, pulled muscles under the right armpit leads to pain.

  3. Breast Cancer

    Cancer of the breast or breast cancer can cause right sided underarm pain. Breast cancer is among the major health problems in women. Any pain under the right armpit may be a symptom of the cancer. However, in most cases, breast cancer is painless and therefore advisable for any female with a lump under the armpit to consult a doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Other symptoms that might come with the cancer include; thickening of tissues, change in shape and size of the breast, the nipple changes its appearance, presence of skin rashes around the nipple, some discharge from the nipple and the skin around the breast dimples.

  4. Peripheral Artery Disorder

    Peripheral artery disorder may cause right sided underarm pain. Arteries may narrow in legs and arms. The narrowing causes reduced blood flow in the areas, which leads to injury of the tissues. The injury causes sharp and severe pain.

  5. Waxing of the Armpit

    If you are fond of waxing and shaving your underarm, your armpits might become sore and can cause right sided underarm pain. In case waxing causes some pain in your right armpit, you should take some painkillers and keep off touching the area until the skin heals. However, you should clean the area before you wax, and shave only when your hair is long enough.

  6. Anxiety

    The cause of right sided underarm pain can be a result of anxiety. Some of the symptoms of anxiety include; shaking of hands, increased heart rate, and irritation, sweating, and underarm sweating. Your muscles might strain as a result of shaking when having a rapid heart rate. As a result of sweating, your underarm maybe painful and irritating.

  7. Inflammation of Hair Follicles

    Hair follicle inflammation can cause right sided underarm pain. Hair follicles are mostly is some parts of the body which include underarm. The follicles are susceptible to infection. In case bacteria’s invade the hair follicles and sweat glands around, inflammation occurs. If the follicles are clogged with dead skin cells, excess oil or bacteria, inflammation may also occur. As a result, infected cysts and sinus tracts are formed. All these causes pain, itching, scarring and pus formation in the area. If the pain is severe, the cysts should be removed, as well as having antibiotic therapy.

  8. Diabetes

    Diabetes can cause right sided underarm pain. The condition is accompanied by blood sugar levels that are uncontrolled. Failure to treat the disease can lead to nerve damage or occurrence of peripheral neuropathy. If the armpit nerves are affected, you may experience pain in your right side underarm.

  9. Herpes Zoster

    Herpes zoster might cause right sided underarm pain in people. Herpes zoster is a condition resulting from nerves being attacked by virus. The condition is extremely painful and some of its major symptoms include; uncomfortable skin rashes that affect only one side of your body, but commonly the face, back, chest and arms. If affected by the condition, your right underarm experiences severe pain.

  10. Subscapularis Trigger Points

    The right side of your underarm may experience pain resulting from trigger points, which are located in the right subscapularis muscle. The muscle is large, triangular in shape and occupies the subscapular fossa on the under area of the shoulder blade. The trigger points causes pain when pressed, sending the pain all over the body. The points are formed due to repetitive strain injuries, trauma and poor posture.

  11. Brachial Plexus Injuries

    Brachial plexus injuries can cause right sided underarm pain. It is a network of nerves, which extend from the neck to the upper extremities, through the armpit. The nerves provide sensation and motor control to structures in the arm and hand. Injury of the nerves occurs when the nerves are stretched or torn. This happens when your shoulders are pushed downward, and the head is pushed upwards, away from the shoulders by use of force. Some major symptoms of the injury include; pain under the right arm or left arm, reduced motor control of your arm, numbness in the arm, and the affected side of the arm becomes weak.

Treatment for Right Sided Underarm Pain

In conclusion, the treatment of the right sided underarm pain depends on the cause. If you are experiencing mild symptoms, the pain will disappear over a short duration. If the cause of your right sided underarm pain is muscle strain, some home remedies may be of vital help in relieving the pain. However, you should consult a physician, in order to get the right medication, treatment, therapy or even surgery for severe conditions which are always the best way to get rid of the right sided underarm pain.

Some of the home remedies for right sided underarm pain include:

  • Cold compresses for managing right sided underarm pain. In order to relieve the pain or inflammation, you should place an ice pack or cold washcloth on your armpit.
  • Massage for right sided underarm pain. Try and massage your armpit gently, in order to minimize swelling and improve blood circulation in the area.
  • Healthy hygiene for right sided underarm pain. Always practice healthy hygiene, to avoid the occurrence of any infection.
  • Warm bath for treating right sided underarm pain. In order to reduce pain, inflammation and itchiness, you should add one tablespoon of baking soda to your bathing water, which should be warm.
  • You should avoid oily and spicy foods, as they make you sweat more and can cause right sided underarm pain.
