  • Arthroscope- A Linear And Tubular Camera.
  • Cabinet: Television Screen, Camera Analyser, Radiofrequecy Control Unit And Cautery Machine.

Indications For Diagnostic Knee Joint Arthroscopy Is As Follows-

  • Chronic Knee Joint Pain.
  • Diagnosis Of Inflammatory Knee Joint Disease-
    1. Tendonitis.
    2. Bursitis.
    3. Arthritis.
  • Diagnosis Of Knee Joint Fragment.
  • Diagnosis Of Dislocation And Fracture Of Knee Joint Bone.

Procedure Is Performed In Out Patient Surgery Or Hospital Surgical Center.

Surgery Is Performed Under Local Anesthesia Or General Anesthesia.

Local Anesthesia And Sedation-

  • Local Anesthesia Is Injected Through A Very Tiny 25 G Needle.
  • Amount Of Local Anesthesia (1% Lidocaine) Injected Is 3 To 10 Ccs.
  • Skin, Subcutaneous Tissue, Muscles, Tendon And Ligaments Are Anesthetized With Local Anesthesia.
  • Patient May Request Or Deny Sedations.
  • Sedation Is Provided By Anesthesiologist.

General Anesthesia-

  • General Anesthesia Is Provided By Anesthesiologist.
  • Patient Is Put To Sleep With Intravenous Medications.
  • Oxygen And Sleeping Gas Is Breathed in by the Patient, Which Is Provided Through A Mask And Tube.
  • Patient Is Monitored Carefully Using Sophisticated Monitoring Equipment.
  • Procedure Is Safe.

Skin Incision-

  • Once Patient Is Anesthetized 4 Tiny Skin Incisions Are Taken.
  • Two Incisions Are Above Knee Joint (Superomedial (Inside) And Superolateral (Outside) Incision).
  • 2 Incision Are Taken Below Knee Joint (Superomedial (Inside) And Superolateral (Outside) Incision).
  • Instruments Are Inserted Through The Skin Incision.
  • First Instrument Inserted Is Arthroscope (Camera) From One Of The 2 Lower Incision.
  • Next Cannula Is Inserted. Cannula Is Connected To Water Irrigation System.
  • The Remaining 2 Incisions Are Used To Insert Various Equipment To Separate Tissue, Remove Fragments Or Torn Tissue. Equipment Are Also Inserted To Widen The Field Of Surgery.
  • The Initial Procedure Is A Diagnostic Procedure.

Indications For Therapeutic Arthroscopy-

  • Repair Of Tendon Rupture.
  • Repair Of Ligamental Tear.
  • Meniscus Removal (Meniscectomy),
  • Meniscus Repair.

Patient Is Discharged Home After Surgery the Same Day.
