Nigella Sativa (Black Seed)

Nigella Sativa is a flowering plant that comes from southwestern Asia, which reaches 20-30 cm in height with linear leaves. The flowers are delicate, and generally pale blue and white, with 5-10 petals. The fruit is a large and inflated capsule composed of 3-7 follicles attached, each with numerous seeds. The seed is used as a spice.

Through a category of reactions called transulfurization, SAMe favors the production of glutathione, an important antioxidant that the body uses to control free radicals. This important endogenous antioxidant performs one of its most important functions in the liver: helping to eliminate toxins. The supplements of SAMe stimulate glutathione levels and have been used in the treatment of different liver pathologies, such as cirrhosis or hepatitis. Studies have shown that an oral supplement of SAMe increases the concentration of glutathione in the liver and red blood cells.
