What Causes Chest Pressure And Jaw Pain?

Chest pain when it occurs with jaw pain is a classic sign of a myocardial infarction even though studies suggest that females are more likely to get jaw pain with chest pressure during a myocardial infarction. Angina is yet another condition that may cause chest pressure with jaw pain.

What Causes Chest Pressure and Jaw Pain?

Myocardial Infarction: This is a condition in which the arteries leading to the heart get blocked due to cholesterol and other fatty debris. This blockage results in interruption of deoxygenated blood reaching the heart resulting in symptoms of chest pressure and jaw pain.

A myocardial infarction is an emergent medical condition and requires immediate medical treatment. Atherosclerosis is believed to be the main cause of a myocardial infarction. Atherosclerosis is caused as a result of thickened coronary arteries making the arteries become thick interrupting the flow of the blood to the heart. A myocardial infarction can cause significant damage to the heart muscle. The primary presenting feature of a myocardial infarction is chest pressure and jaw pain.

Angina Pectoris: This is a condition which is supposed to be a precursor for a myocardial infarction. This condition is caused as a result of a blockage to the arteries of the heart which interrupts the flow of oxygenated blood to the heart. This causes mild ache and chest pressure which may radiate to the jaw. This is yet another cause for chest pressure along with jaw pain.

Other than the potentially serious causes of chest pressure with jaw pain, there are many other benign causes for chest pressure with jaw pain. Indigestion and heartburn are believed to be one of the most common causes of chest pressure associated with jaw pain.

The jaw pain may be caused due to an underlying dental condition in association with indigestion. Another cause for chest pressure with jaw pain, especially in females, is if a brassiere which is not fitting well.
