Genital herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases. It is caused by the herpes simplex virus which is transmitted through unprotected sex with an infected partner. Once the virus enters the body the symptoms can be experienced within a week of the exposure. The individual will feel pain and severe itching sensation around the genital areas.

After about a couple of weeks, formation of erythematous rashes occurs around the genital area. These rashes take the shape of ulcers which ultimately rupture and ooze fluid and then heal. The symptoms then tend to fade away only to return after some months. Genital herpes is an extremely contagious infection and spreads through direct contact with an infected individual.

In some cases, an individual may have no symptoms but still may carry the virus and infect others who come in contact with the person. Females are more at risk for getting this infection than males although the spread of this disease is faster through males than females.

Having sex with multiple partners also carries a big risk of getting Genital Herpes. This article highlights whether there is a cure for this disease and what are the treatment options for it.
