How Effective is Cardizem & What are Its Side Effects?

Cardizem which is also known as diltiazem is a form of calcium channel blocker, which is used for relaxing heart muscles and blood vessels.

How Effective is Cardizem?

Cardizem medicine is very effective in controlling hypertension and is also very safe when taken in combination with their blood pressure medicines. Cardizem drug is also used for curing chest pain commonly known as chronic stable angina and angina caused due to spasm in coronary artery.

How Effective is Cardizem?

Patients who are suffering from low blood pressure or any form of heart disorder, such as AV block or sick sinus syndrome and patients who have recently experienced heart attack should strictly avoid taking Cardizem. In addition, patients who have lungs diseases should also avoid taking this medication.

It is often advised that patients should tell their doctor if they are or have suffered from liver dysfunction, kidney disease or serious heart problem. This is so because doctors can then analyze the problem in details and will prescribe the medicine accordingly.

Studies have revealed that Cardizem can also immediate effect on individuals thinking or reaction ability. Hence, it is advised not to indulge in driving or any other activity that requires alertness immediately after taking the medicine. Some of the people make their own decision of stopping the medicine without doctor’s consent but this is not the right approach. If you suddenly stop taking this medicine then the health condition can become worst and one may also attract other health issues.

Medicine alone only caters half of the problem the remaining half requires maintaining healthy diet, active routine that includes exercise and positive attitude towards life. When all these things are combined then the problem is treated well and from the root.

Some patients make a very common mistake of stopping the medicine when they start feeling better but this is not right. The medicine should not be stopped in any condition unless it is asked by the registered doctor. The reason behind this is there are some heath issues like high blood pressure that does not have any significant symptoms, so continuing the medicine helps in such diseases in control.

How to Take Cardizem?

The medicine should be taken exactly the way it is prescribed by the doctor. Also, the instructions that are mentioned on the prescription label should be followed.

Doctors may alter the dose of the medicine to ensure whether the expected results are seen or not. However, never make the mistake of altering the medicine on their own or should not extend the duration of medication without doctor’s permission.

The medicine come in capsule form and it should be taken by swallowing directly with water, instead of crushing or chewing the capsule. For better result make sure to take the medicine regularly and refill the medicine before it gets finished.

What are the Side Effects of Cardizem?

If patient experience any of the following symptoms like breathlessness, swelling on face or tough, dizziness and so on then it is advised to visit the doctor without any delay. Some of the common side effects of Cardizem Includes:

  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Sudden chest pain
  • Heart problem like breathlessness
  • Sudden weight gain
  • Liver problem
  • Nausea
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of appetite
  • Yellow color skin (as in case of Jaundice)
  • Change in urine color
  • Dizziness
  • Skin reactions like rashes or redness on skin
  • Severe headache.

There are medicines that create adverse effects when taken in combination with Cardizem. Patient should inform their doctor about the medicines, which they are taking so that doctor can prescribe only those medicines which do not have any adverse effect if taken in combination with Cardizem.
