In order to make jardiance or empagliflozin safe for your body you must tell your doctor if you have any of these conditions:

  • Low B.P (blood pressure)
  • Urination problems
  • Kidney disease
  • If you are above 65 years
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Any history of bladder infection
  • Congestive heart failure
  • If you are having a low salt diet.

It is important to tell your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant or are pregnant at the time of treatment as it is unknown if jardiance or empagliflozin can harm the unborn baby.

Similarly, tell your doctor if you are breast feeding your child as it is unknown if jardiance or empagliflozin passes through breast milk to the child.

What is the Recommended Dosage of Jardiance?

Treatment for Type 2 Diabetes – General Adult Dosage of Jardiance or Empagliflozin

Starting jardiance or empagliflozin dosage: one time in the morning 10 milligrams orally

Maximum jardiance or empagliflozin dosage: one time in the morning 25 milligrams orally

Usage restriction: Jardiance or empagliflozin should not be given if the patient has diabetic ketacidosis or type 1 diabetes

  • Jardiance or empagliflozin can be taken with or without food.
  • Jardiance or empagliflozin effectively improves the glucemic controls in patients suffering from Type 2 diabetes and is taken along with proper exercise and diet.

What are the Side Effects of Jardiance?

If you experience any side effects taking jardiance or empagliflozin, get immediate medical assistance. In most cases the reactions would be difficulty in breathing, hives or even swelling of throat, lips, face or tongue

If you experience any of these reaction or severe side effects of jardiance or empagliflozin, get immediate medical help:

  • Frequent urination
  • Genital infection symptoms (vagina or penis) – redness, itching, rashes, discharge, pain, odor, burning
  • Ketoacidosis (increased acid levels in blood) – stomach pain, unusual drowsiness, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, confusion, nausea
  • Light headed feeling like passing out
  • Rapid weight gain, swelling of body, less or no urination
  • Bladder infection symptoms – cloudy urine, burning or pain while urination, pain in back or pelvis
  • Dehydration symptoms – not able to urinate, dry or hot skin, feeling very thirsty, heavy sweating
  • It is possible older adults to have these side effects more than younger people.

Here are the two common side effects of jardiance or empagliflozin:

  • Genital infection
  • Bladder infection.

How to Take Jardiance?

Jardiance or empagliflozin is in normal cases taken on time in the morning, it is important to follow all the instructions and guidelines that are mentioned in the package label. There are chances for your physician to change the dosage levels from time to time to give you the best results. Also, it is not wise to take jardiance or empagliflozin in larger or smaller quantities than what the doctor has prescribed.

You can take jardiance or empagliflozin with or without food however it is important to take jardiance or empagliflozin at the same time every day

There are chances of having low blood pressure taking jardiance or empagliflozin, if your condition worsens with vomiting or feeling sick or diarrhea, it is important to call your doctor.

Your doctor will check your blood sugar levels very often and also ketones levels in urine. Jardiance or empagliflozin can cause ketoacidosis (life threatening condition) which is increased acid in blood. If your blood sugar levels are normal and have ketones in urine, you must consult your doctor.

There are chances of people suffering from diabetes to have low blood sugar.
