Can Azoospermia Cure Itself?

Can Azoospermia Cure Itself?

Azoospermia is a medical condition that is characterized by low or no sperm count in ejaculated semen. It can be caused by a variety of factors, and while in most cases it can be treated, in others, the damage is irreversible. Azoospermia accounts for about 5% of infertility in men and even when one does produce sperms, some do not have the fertilizing power. The main problem that arises with azoospermia is the inability to father a child. However, all hope shouldn’t be lost cause you can still have your own biological family. So, how is that possible? Well, basically through treatment procedures this can either reverse the condition or make it possible for you to impregnate your female counterpart. As much as azoospermia can be cured, it will not go away on its own. Medical intervention is required to manage the underlying condition, or rather cure azoospermia.

Can Azoospermia Cure Itself?

Who Gets Azoospermia?

Most males who are unable to get a woman pregnant may possibly have a low or no sperm count problem in their semen ejaculation. One of these problems is azoospermia, which is a disorder where the male doesn’t ejaculate enough number of sperms to impregnate a woman. This can be caused by different medical and congenital problems; however, some risk factors increase one’s likelihood of developing the conditions. People who are likely to get azoospermia include;

  • People who use narcotic drugs including smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol.
  • If you are overly stressed, it can lead to hormonal imbalance or the brain may not send signals to the testicles to produce sperms.
  • Those who are overweight or obese.
  • Individuals who are constantly exposed to toxins such as harmful chemicals e.g. pesticides and organic solvents.
  • Cancer patients who’ve been exposed to radiation or chemotherapy over a period of time.
  • People who’ve encountered direct injury to the testicles.
  • Those born with fertility disorders or have developed medical conditions which attributed to impairment in sperm production.
  • Patients who have undergone a major vasectomy or pelvic surgery that interfered with the passageway of sperms.

How Do You Know You Have Azoospermia?

It is difficult for one to diagnose themselves whether they have azoospermia or not. However, if you and your wife have been trying to get pregnant to no avail, you should make an appointment with a specialist to identify the problem. Diagnostic tests for azoospermia include semen analysis, which can either be done through examination of ejaculated semen via a microscope or advanced sperm technology. The former works by counting how many sperms are present in ejaculated semen. Other tests that are essential include a blood test to evaluate hormone count and testicular biopsy. If sperm analysis results show that your sperm count is less than 15 million sperms per milliliter of semen or less than 39million sperms per ejaculate, then you likely have a reproduction condition. If the count is close to zero, then you probably have azoospermia.

Rectifying Azoospermia

Azoospermia can be corrected using surgery, especially for patients with reversible obstructive azoospermia. A minor surgical procedure is then performed to remove the blockage and to repair any damage caused within the semen passage. If the surgery is successful, there is a 97% chance of sperm restoration and the probability of fathering a child is above 50%. Otherwise, if a patient doesn’t want surgery, sperm retrieval can be done and the semen sample used for in vitro fertilization (IVF). Sperm retrieval can be done either by extracting sperms via a syringe or minor procedure from the testes. For patients with low hormone levels, they can be given medication to boost their hormone levels and consequently increase sperm production.

Conclusion

The lack of sperms in semen ejaculate can be attributed to pre-testicular, testicular or post-testicular problems. These problems can only be managed via medical or surgical interventions. In other words, one can be cured of azoospermia if they are operated on or given medication to help with their condition. Therefore, azoospermia cannot cure itself on its own without the proper treatment procedures being followed.
