In the stages right after birth, the baby goes through various changes to adjust to the environment outside the womb. While the babies are going through the adjustment with the environment, a child might become a victim to certain conditions too. Barking cough, which is a symptom of croup, is one such fairly common respiratory condition that develops in babies. This is a sort of viral infection or an allergic reaction that affects the windpipe, the bronchi and the larynx of the baby. Children aged 6 months to 3 years are most susceptible to barking cough or croup. More common in the autumn and winter, barking cough or croup makes it hard for the baby to breathe.
