What is Bone Broth?
Bone broth is a liquid made by brewing bones and connective tissue. It is made with the cow, chicken, lamb, venison, bison, and even fishbone. It is highly nutritious and is used in soup, sauces, and gravies. It is also popularly known as a health drink.
How To Make Bone Broth?
The bone broth recipe is very simple.
A large pot, water, vinegar, and bones are needed when preparing for broth.
Take one gallon of water, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 2-4 pounds of animal bones, and salt and pepper to taste.
Place all the ingredients in the large pot. Bring the ingredients to a boil. Reduce it to simmer and cook for 12-24 hours. The longer a broth is cooked, the more nutritious it will be. As the broth cools, strain the liquid into a large container and discard any remains.
To make the broth more nutritious try adding a variety of bones i.e. marrow bones, oxtail, knuckles, and feet.
Vinegar is important as it helps pull the valuable nutrients out of the bones into the water which has to be consumed.
Vegetables, herbs, and spices can be added to the broth to enhance flavor. Other additions can be garlic, onion, celery, parsley, and thyme.
