What Are The Lifestyle Changes For Mesenteric Lymphadenitis?

Mesentery is a membrane that attaches our intestines to the back of the abdominal wall. The lymph nodes present here get inflamed, due to some reason. This leads to mesenteric lymphadenitis. Mesenteric lymphadenitis is most commonly seen in small kids and teens.

What Are The Lifestyle Changes For Mesenteric Lymphadenitis?

Mesenteric lymphadenitis usually gets better on its own and treatment is often not required. However, symptomatic treatment can be carried out, to alleviate the discomfort. Also, antibiotics may be necessary in case of a bacterial infection. Lot of rest is advised as it will help the child to recover quickly. Upping the fluid intake is recommended so that fever, vomiting and diarrhea do not cause any dehydration. Applying a warm compress at the affected area on the abdomen may prove to be beneficial in easing the discomfort.

The most important factor to be considered here is taking ample rest. This disease is mostly seen in kids and teens. Both these groups of children are very high on energy and hence can find themselves in a tight spot when it comes to taking adequate rest. As it is, mesenteric lymphadenitis is associated with general fatigue and malaise.

The affected child should be drinking lots of fluids. Mesenteric lymphadenitis, if associated with other symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea, can be responsible for severe fluid loss, in turn causing dehydration. Hence, drinking plenty of fluids can ensure that the required fluid balance is maintained and this is a good lifestyle change.

The abdomen tends to be tender in mesenteric lymphadenitis also there is a degree of pain in abdomen. Applying a warm compress can help in easing the discomfort caused by the pain and tenderness.

If these lifestyle changes are paired with the right kind of food, it may prove to be beneficial in the recovery of mesenteric lymphadenitis. Foods rich in fiber can be consumed, as fiber will enhance the digestive health and will help in reducing the abdominal pain. Also, spicy and oily food should be avoided, in order to avoid any irritation to the digestive system. Citrus fruits may cause a problem, but there is no proof to support this theory. Fatty foods, Caffeinated drinks like coffee, carbonated beverages, aerated drinks and drinking alcohol should be avoided.

Mesenteric lymphadenitis is not a dangerous illness and it will subside on its own. Treating the cause will treat it. However, any of the symptoms listed above should be brought to the notice of the physician promptly to make a correct diagnosis.

The most common symptom of mesenteric lymphadenitis is abdominal pain, which can be on the lower, right side most of the times. However, it may spread sometimes to other parts as well.
