Streptococcus Viridans or the Viridans group streptococci or VGS, are a diverse range of organisms in the genus of Streptococcus, which are known for greening of the blood in the blood agar, where they are grown normally.

Oral streptococcus largely comprise of members of the VGS, which now include 20 species, which are the inhabitants of the gastrointestinal tracts, oropharyngeal cavity, and the genital tracts of all mammals.

It must be noted that Viridans streptococci or the streptococcus Viridans are part of the normal microbial flora of we human beings.(1)
