    • Take isosorbide mononitrate two times in a day orally at 20 milligrams with 7 hours apart from each intake
    • For small and saturated patients, 5 milligrams dosage two times a day would be the ideal dosage. It can be increased to 10 milligrams two times a day in the initial 2-3 days
    • Having asymmetric dosage with 7 hours apart from each intake will have a nitrate feel which will minimize tolerance
    • For elderly patients start with low end of dosage
    • 5 milligrams of dosage is very effective only when the medicine is taken the first time. 20 milligrams dosages two times a day are not been adequately studied yet.

    Isosorbide mononitrate is for the treatment and prevention of angina pectoris that occur mainly because of coronary artery disease. Starting this treatment will not give immediate relief from the condition as it will prevent gradually.

    Extended Release

    Isosorbide mononitrate has to be taken one time in the morning at 30-40 milligrams orally.

    Maximum isosorbide mononitrate dosage: One time to be taken in the morning at 240 milligrams orally

    • Swallow the tablet as it is with half glass of water instead of chewing or crushing
    • For elderly patients start with lesser dosage levels

What are the Side Effects of Isosorbide Mononitrate?

It is important to get immediate medical assistance if you experience any of these allergic reactions such as swelling of lips, face, throat or tongue, difficulty in breathing or hives.

If you experience any of these severe side effects of isosorbide mononitrate, call you physician for immediate medical assistance:

  • Slow or fast heart rate
  • Light headed feeling like passing out
  • Fluttering in the chest or pounding heartbeats
  • Worsening angina pain.
