Testicles are the male reproductive organs. The testicles are situated within the scrotum. These are essential organs when it comes to male reproductive system as this is the place where sperms and testosterone are produced. There are two testicles, left and right, and both have the same function.

For an individual to complain of Left Testicle Pain there can be numerous reasons for it. If getting hit by an object such as a ball while playing sport like baseball or cricket is perhaps the most common cause for an individual to have Left Testicle Pain, although there may be other causes for an individual to have Left Testicle Pain as well.

In majority of the cases, pain the testicles will always be preceded by pain in the abdominal area and groin. This will then be followed by pain in the testicles. There may be many causes for an individual to have Left Testicle Pain and below mentioned are some of the causes:

Trauma: A direct trauma or injury to the testicle is one of the most common causes of Left Testicle Pain. This trauma or injury can be either from an altercation or being hit by an object in the scrotal area. This causes inflammation and pain the testicular region.

Diabetic Neuropathy: This is yet another cause for Left Testicle Pain. Diabetic Neuropathy is a condition in which the nerves of the body get damaged due to increase in blood sugars. As the name suggest this condition is seen in diabetics and testicular pain due to diabetic neuropathy is caused due to damage to the nerves within the scrotal area.

Epididymitis: This is a medical condition in which there is inflammation of the testicles and can cause Left Testicle Pain. This condition is normally caused as a result of sexually transmitted diseases.

Gangrene: This is yet another cause for Left Testicle Pain. This is caused as a result of tissue necrosis in the testicles which is caused due to an untreated serious medical condition called testicular torsion. A direct trauma to the testicular area may also result in tissue necrosis causing Left Testicle Pain.

Hydrocele: This is also one of the common causes of pain in the left testicle. This is a condition in which there is gradual buildup of fluid within the testicles causing the testicle and scrotal area to swell. This swelling and fluid buildup tends to cause Left Testicle Pain.

Kidney Stones: Kidney Stones are yet another cause for Left Testicle Pain. While most of the stones pass through urine there are some stones which when they cross the urethra on their way out through urine tend to cause Left Testicle Pain.

Undescended Testicle: This is a condition in which the testes which normally descend down into the scrotum at the time of birth do not do so and stay within the abdomen or descend only halfway through. Hormonal problems or other congenital conditions are the cause or undescended testicles and this is one of the primary causes for Left Testicle Pain, if the left testicle remains undescended.

Varicocele: A varicocele within the testicle is also one of the causes for Left Testicle Pain. This is a condition in which certain veins enlarge abnormally and cause pain. When this happens in the left testicle it causes pain.

Testicular Torsion: This is perhaps the most serious cause for Left Testicle Pain. This is a condition in which the left testicle becomes twisted such that all the blood supply to the testicle is cut off causing tissue necrosis.

This is a medical emergency because if left untreated it will not only cause immense pain and discomfort to the affected individual it can also cause severe damage to the tissues and other structures within the testicle and the testicle may be permanently damaged.

When Should You Contact A Doctor For Left Testicle Pain?

It is recommended that a physician should be contacted under the following circumstances:

  • Feeling of a lump in the scrotal area
  • Persistent fever
  • The scrotum becomes red and tender to light palpation
  • Development of symptoms after an unprotected sexual contact
  • Sudden pain in the testicles
  • Nausea and vomiting along with pain
  • An injury or blow to the testicular area
