Garlic: It has antiinflammatory and antiviral properties, which makes it an excellent food to consume for shingles. The best way to use them is to take a couple of cloves of garlic and swallow them with water every morning. This may give you bad breath but ultimately its effect may help in healing Shingles.

Another way to use garlic is by making a garlic paste with crushed garlic mixed with water or coconut oil. Apply this paste directly on the affected areas for better relief of Shingles.

Fish: This is yet another food that can be of benefit when dealing with Shingles. Fish contain in them lysine, which is extremely useful in preventing the spread of the shingles virus. Another source of lysine is roasted chicken which can also be eaten for treatment of Shingles.

Whole Grains: The whole grains can be extremely beneficial in managing the symptoms of Shingles. They provide the body with abundant fiber and vitamins, which help in aiding the normal functioning of the digestive system. Some of the foods that can be taken are cereals, pastas, bread, rice, and oatmeal.

It should be noted here that diabetics need to be aware that white rice and bread can increase the insulin levels and thus need to be careful while using whole grains for treatment of Shingles.

Water: Adequate water intake is extremely important when dealing Shingles. If an individual is well hydrated, then it allows the virus to be flushed out of the body. An individual with shingles should drink at least 8 ounces of water every couple of hours. Additionally, complete abstinence from alcohol and other caffeinated products are important for treatment of Shingles.
