Avoiding Large Meals

To prevent morning sore throat caused by acid reflux, one should not eat at all or at least avoid eating large meals within a few hours of bedtime.

Proper Hydration

By keeping the body adequately hydrated, one can get rid of morning throat soreness and dryness. One should drink optimal amount of water throughout the day, or at least have a glass or two before bed time to prevent dry sore throat after waking up. In case the morning sore throat is caused due to nasal congestion at night, one should try to clear the nasal passages before going to bed. Sucking on a lozenge or dissolving one in tea can help provide relief from dry sore throat in the morning to a large extent. One can simply suck a lozenge or drink a cup of hot tea with a lozenge dissolved in it. To avoid any choking hazard, the dissolving method is better when treating children with a sore throat.

When Should One See a Doctor for a Dry Sore Throat?

A visit to the doctor is required in case the throat dryness and soreness persists for more than a week without any improvement and when it is believed to be caused by conditions more serious than a cold or dehydration.
