How Can I Cure My Eyesight?

Getting yourself a regular eye check up is one of the many ways to improve your eyesight. However, there are many other ways by which you can take care of your eyesight, like-

Eating A Healthy Diet-

A healthy and balanced diet will ensure that you get all the essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are required for your eye health. Vitamins A, C, E and mineral zinc are extremely essential for healthy eyes

These vitamins and minerals can prevent an eye condition known as macular degeneration. Macular degeneration is a condition in which the part of the eye that controls central vision and is known as the macula, degenerates. You can obtain these vitamins and minerals from carrots, red peppers, spinach, broccoli, strawberries, citrus fruits, sweet potatoes etc. foods like flaxseeds and salmons that are rich in omega -3 fatty acids are also essential for better eye health

Other than these, there are other nutrients that are equally important for eye health. These are lutein and zeaxanthin. These are the carotenoids that are found in your retina. They can be obtained from leafy greens, zucchini, eggs etc. these can also be taken in a supplement form. These nutrients help in protecting the macula and absorb ultraviolet and blue light.(1)

Exercise-

Exercising and maintaining a healthy weight can help you maintain the health of your eyes. Diabetes, especially the type 2, which is commonly seen in overweight or obese people is one of the foremost reasons for damaging your eyes. Diabetes damages the tiny blood vessels in your eyes, leading to a condition known as diabetic retinopathy.

This condition harms your vision. Get your blood sugar levels checked regularly and stay fit to avoid this type of damage to the eyes

Taking Care Of Chronic Conditions-

Apart from diabetes, other conditions like hypertension can affect your eyesight. Other chronic inflammatory conditions exert the same effect on your eyesight.

Inflammation of optic nerve can result in a complete vision loss. Not all chronic diseases can be cured or prevented. But, there symptoms can be managed, so that they do not cause any further complications

Wearing Proper Eyewear-

It is important to protect your eyes by wearing proper eye gear, especially when you are doing activities like playing sports, doing science experiments, working with sharp instruments etc. a tiniest scrap can damage your eyes to a great extent.

Using Sunglasses-

Sunglasses should not be treated only as a fashion accessory. They are meant to protect you from harmful UVA and UVB sunrays. Use of sunglasses can give you protection from conditions that arise from eye damage like macular degeneration, cataracts etc.

Following A 20-20-20 Eye Health Rule-

If you do activities like reading, working at a computer, writing, mobile etc. you need to follow the 20-20-20 rule. Which means that you must look away after every 20 minutes at a 20 feet distance for 20 seconds. This will give your eyes the much-needed rest.(1)

No Smoking-

Smoking is bad for your lungs and heart and almost every part of your body. That includes eyes as well. Smoking puts you at an increased risk of getting eye conditions like cataracts etc. quitting smoking will start giving you positive results almost as soon as you quit.

Do Eye Exercises Work?

Eye exercises can help in improving the health of your eyes. They can help your eyes in working better together. But, they cannot correct any conditions like myopia, hyperopia etc. they also cannot cure any conditions like cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration etc. however, they can help in preventing or delaying the onset of many eye conditions and can improve general eye health.(2)

Eyesight can be improved with the help of certain measures like a healthy lifestyle. Eye exercises can help in improving your general eye health.
