These vitamins and minerals can prevent an eye condition known as macular degeneration. Macular degeneration is a condition in which the part of the eye that controls central vision and is known as the macula, degenerates. You can obtain these vitamins and minerals from carrots, red peppers, spinach, broccoli, strawberries, citrus fruits, sweet potatoes etc. foods like flaxseeds and salmons that are rich in omega -3 fatty acids are also essential for better eye health

Other than these, there are other nutrients that are equally important for eye health. These are lutein and zeaxanthin. These are the carotenoids that are found in your retina. They can be obtained from leafy greens, zucchini, eggs etc. these can also be taken in a supplement form. These nutrients help in protecting the macula and absorb ultraviolet and blue light.(1)

Exercising and maintaining a healthy weight can help you maintain the health of your eyes. Diabetes, especially the type 2, which is commonly seen in overweight or obese people is one of the foremost reasons for damaging your eyes. If you do activities like reading, working at a computer, writing, mobile etc. you need to follow the 20-20-20 rule. Which means that you must look away after every 20 minutes at a 20 feet distance for 20 seconds. This will give your eyes the much-needed rest.(1)

No Smoking-

Smoking is bad for your lungs and heart and almost every part of your body. That includes eyes as well. Smoking puts you at an increased risk of getting eye conditions like cataracts etc. quitting smoking will start giving you positive results almost as soon as you quit.
