Can Multiple Sclerosis Go Away On Its Own?

Multiple Sclerosis or MS is disorder of Central nervous system which affects the brain, spinal cord and the optic nerve. Most of the people who are diagnosed with MS are initially diagnosed with remitting and relapsing MS which means the symptoms are not much severe and fade away with time. But in some cases the symptoms are serious and need to be treated carefully. When the old symptoms reappear, they are not very severe and do not require treatment.

Can Multiple Sclerosis Go Away On Its Own?

Because the case varies from patient to patient, there are chances that the multiple sclerosis might go away on its own with time or it might require treatment. (1) To know more about this we need to understand deeply what multiple sclerosis is, its symptoms and its treatment.

How Do We Detect Multiple Sclerosis?

There are multiple symptoms which may occur which indicate one or more signs of multiple sclerosis. Like for instance you might feel weakness or exhausted lately, your feet might have that tingling sensation. All these and other symptoms may indicate that you have developed multiple sclerosis (MS), a brain and spinal cord disorder.

In this disorder, the body’s immune system starts attacking the fatty myelin sheath that covers the nerve fibers. When the myelin sheath is attacked at different regions it deteriorates at different areas leaving scars or sclerosis. This interrupts the impulse conduction and the symptoms starts appearing. However the severity of symptoms may depend on patient to patient. There are some patients who show mild symptoms like numbness in some parts of the body. In some patients the symptoms are more severe like a paralytic attack or permanent loss of vision.

The most common and the foremost symptom of multiple sclerosis is numbness. If ever you start feeling lack of sensation, or there is no pin and needles sensation, it could be a sign of first nerve damage due to multiple sclerosis. It generally occurs in face, legs or arms or any one side of the body. This numbness or tingling sensation may fade away with time. The numbness or the tingling affect could be due to other reasons also therefore you should know how to differentiate between the two. Although, there is no such clear demarcation between the symptoms caused by MS or other health issues like diabetes we can say that the symptoms of MS are seen between the age of 20-40 years and is common more in females as compared to males. The symptoms of multiple sclerosis fade away on their own as the time passes but if the case is severe, it will get worsen over time.

Dizziness is also another common symptom of multiple sclerosis. The patient feels nauseous and dizzy when lying down or when they suddenly stand up. You might also feel lightheaded or off balanced while sitting or while in motion.

Diagnosis And Treatment for Multiple Sclerosis

There are some costly tests like MRI, scanning of brain, CSF analysis, nerve response test etc which may diagnose MS, but again the test is not positive for all the patients. Some patients might show a negative response even after suffering from MS and in some patients these costly tests may reveal other health issues also.

The best treatment of multiple sclerosis is to suppress the symptoms by taking medicines as prescribed by the physician. There are some precautions and preventions, which help in controlling the symptoms of multiple sclerosis like, proper diet, quitting smoking and alcohol, regular exercise and prevention from common infections like cough and cold.

Conclusion

The severity of multiple sclerosis is different in different patients therefore, the appearance of symptoms are also different in different patients. The most common and the foremost symptoms of multiple sclerosis are numbness in the face, arms or legs and dizziness. In patient with mild case of MS, the symptoms appear and they fade away with time. But in patients who have severe MS the symptoms tend to get worse over time. The multiple sclerosis can be diagnosed with some costly tests like MRI, CSF analysis etc.
