Treating such a high degree of acne requires prolonged use of medicines with the right approach towards a combination of drugs. The severe forms of acne, including gram-negative folliculitis, rosacea fulminans, and acne fulminans are emotionally painful and leave a permanent scar. Using Amoxicillin is the strongest weapon to counterattack any degree of acne.
Can I Take Amoxicillin for Acne?
The first line of treatment is hygiene condition, which ensures removal of excess oil and other irritants. Over-the-counter precautions include topical creams that may or may not work, depending on the degree of acne. These lotions, soaps, and creams consist of benzoyl peroxide, sulphur, salicylic acid, and resorcinol acid. Prescription based medicines are oral pills that are helpful when a patient is suffering from inflammatory lesions caused due to mild to severe acne.
Among the oral prescribed medicines is Amoxicillin. It is useful in curing moderate to severe acne consisting of inflammatory nodules, cysts, and papules. A dermatologist prescribes the use of the medicine based on the infection and the level of inflammation experienced by the patient. FDA approved the use of Amoxicillin for curing acne, and therefore, considered as a safe prescribed medicine for curing inflammatory acne.
The dosage of amoxicillin changes from one to another. However, for a complete result, a dermatologist prescribes the medication amoxicillin for at least a minimum period of three months. Depending on the results, the physician changes the dose or discontinues it and opts for other drugs to cure acne completely. As amoxicillin does have side effects, speaking openly about any existing ailments with the doctor is preferable.
Possessing the knowledge about the reasons behind the occurrence of the acne is profitable. Acne is the result due to the oil released by the glands that lie beneath the skin. The reason is due to the androgen hormones, which the body produces during the teenage group. These are responsible for the oil production, which helps in the removal of dead skin cells from the pores. Depending on the body type, these hormones release less or excessive content of oil. Less oil makes the skin dry, and the dead skin cells remain for an extended period. Excessive secretion clogs the pores, preventing removal of the dead skin cells. In either case, both cause acne. Moderate to severe acne can be effectively treated by the use of amoxicillin but it is not available as an over the counter medicine. Therefore it is better to consult a dermatologist for getting amoxicillin.
