What Does TMT Test Indicate?

TMT Test or Treadmill Stress Test gives the doctor information about the function of your heart at the time when you experience physical stress. Doctors may easily diagnose some of the heart problems when our heart remains in working condition and beats at a relatively fast rate. During TMT test, a person walks, pedal a bicycle or runs on a treadmill to make the heart performs its functions very fast and beats at the fastest rate.

Scope of TMT Test

Doctors usually choose TMT test stress testing technique to diagnose CHD i.e. Coronary Heart Disease or Coronary artery problems. In addition, cardiologists use the TMT test to identify the severity of CHD problems in their patients.

Overview of Coronary Heart Disease or CHD

Coronary Heart Disease or CHD refers to a condition, where a plaque, a fatty material builds up within an individual’s coronary arteries, i.e. arteries responsible for supplying of the blood rich in oxygen to the heart. Presence of plaque narrows the coronary arteries and reduces the flow of blood towards the heart muscles. Even it often causes clotting of the blood in the human arteries. Clotting of the blood may partially or entirely blocks the flow of blood. In this way, formation of plaque results in heart attack or severe chest pain.

The main problem in this case is that patients do not able to identify any sign related to Coronary Heart Disease or CHD whenever the heart remains in rest condition. However, when the heart has to work hard at the time of physical exercise, it requires oxygen and blood in more amount. Narrowed arteries fail to supply blood in enough amounts for the heart to work in a good condition. Hence, signs and symptoms associated with Coronary Heart Disease or CHD takes place only when you do physical exercise.

What Does TMT Test Indicate?

Stress test or TMT test intends to detect the following important problems, which suggest that the heart of a human being is not receiving blood in the adequate amount while he does any physical exercise. TMT test thus indicates:

  • TMT test indicates abnormal variations in the heartbeat rate or in the blood pressure
  • TMT test indicates symptoms in the form of the breathing shortness or chest pain, which are points to worry in case they take place at lower levels of your exercise.
  • TMT test indicates abnormal variations in the rhythm of your heart and/electrical activities.

Whenever at the time of TMT test, if you fail to exercise for the normal period, according to your age, then TMT test indicates a sign of scarcity in the blood that flows towards your heart. In addition, TMT test helps in assessing of various other problems, which include the heart failure and heart valve problems.

Echo Test Type of TMT Stress Test

TMT Echo test is the acronym for Exercise Stress Echocardiogram test, where a technician will collect pictures of the patient’s heart based on the application of echo-cardiograph before you start with your physical exercise and as soon as you complete with it.

Sonographer i.e. a person specializes in operating various ultrasound technologies will apply a suitable gel on the chest of a patient. After this, he/she puts a wand type device commonly referred as a transducer against the chest and moves across it.

The transducer sends as well as receives high-pitch sounds, which are not audible to normal individuals. In this way, the device converts echoes obtained from sound waves into moving pictures of the patient’s heart on the respective screen.

In this type of TMT test, patients have to lie by their side on an examination table. Even few TMT stress echo test uses a dye to boost the imaging procedure. Sonographer injects the dye within the bloodstream for the TMT test.
