How Long Does It Take To Recover From A Ruptured Brain Aneurysm?

The recovery time from a ruptured brain aneurysm depends on the severity of the symptoms and the type of treatment given. In case a patient has undergone surgery, it may take round three to six weeks to recover from it. In case, there is bleeding associated with the brain aneurysm, it may take even longer. In such cases, few months of time may be required.

How Long Does It Take To Recover From A Ruptured Brain Aneurysm?

What Happens In A Ruptured Brain Aneurysm?

As it is known that a brain aneurysm is primarily a bulge in the wall of the brain’s artery. With time, the bulge so formed tends to grow in size thereby making the walls of the artery particularly thin. When the artery becomes considerably thin, the blood pressure in the artery happens to cause a leakage of the artery. This leakage is commonly called rupturing of the brain aneurysm.

What Are The Symptoms Of Ruptured Brain Aneurysm?

In general, brain aneurysms that do not rupture do not show distinct symptoms. Once they rupture, the symptoms become evident. It may be a case of medical emergency and thus doctor should be visited immediately. Some of the symptoms of ruptured aneurysm include-

It should be remembered that ruptured brain aneurysm may lead to internal bleeding in the brain contributing to a condition called subarachnoid hemorrhage. Such a condition can be fatal, if emergency medication is not provided. Thus in case of presence of the symptoms, it should be reported to the doctor as soon as possible.

What Are The Various Types Of Brain Aneurysms?

There are a variety of brain aneurysms that may occur. They are-

Saccular Aneurysm- This form of aneurysm essentially is known to bulge from a specific and particular side of the affected artery and is particularly specific form of neck in its bottom.

Fusiform Aneurysm- Such types of aneurysm are known to bulge from every possible direction without any form of neck.

Traumatic Aneurysms- Such forms of aneurysm basically occur due to some form of injury in head or undergoing some form of trauma.

What Helps In Detecting The Presence Of A Ruptured Brain Aneurysm?

When a patient comes with the symptoms of ruptured brain aneurysm he is immediately taken to the emergency room and given first aid. Once the medical history of the patient is taken, the doctor may go for the tests aimed at the detection of brain aneurysm. Such tests for detecting brain aneurysm include-

CT Scan- The Computed Tomography Scan is the primary test that helps in detecting the presence of ruptured brain aneurysm. It is completely a non-invasive test which provides pictures of the internal structure of the brain. Thus, this is a suitable way to detect the rupture of brain aneurysm because presence of blood can be easily detected in the brain.

MRI- The MRI technique helps in providing a proper view of the tissues present in the brain with the help of radio waves. In recent times, the Magnetic Resonance Angiogram is gaining a lot of popularity because it makes it possible to even view the blood vessels along with the tissues. Thus, detection of ruptured brain aneurysm becomes easier this way.

Angiogram- Among the invasive methods, an angiogram may be beneficial in detecting a ruptured brain aneurysm. In it, a contrast dye is passed through a catheter in the blood vessels of the brain which helps in detection of the rupture under X-rays.
