If snoring is caused due to blocked airways or other benign sources like position of sleeping, then they can be stopped by employing the following remedies:

Lose Weight: In case if your snoring is caused due to being overweight or obese, then it is best to start employing measures to lose weight in a healthy way. This will reduce the amount of tissue within the throat, which will vibrate and cause snoring.

For this, you can consult with a nutritionist who can formulate the best diet plan for you so that you can lose weight in a healthy manner in the quickest possible time. Rigorous exercise is also of great help in losing weight.

Sleeping On The Sides – This is also quite an effective way to stop snoring. When you sleep on the back, sometimes the tongue moves to the back of the throat, which results in blockage of airflow causing snoring. When you sleep on the sides, it will free the passage of air through the throat and reduce the snoring.

Elevating Head of Bed: Elevating the head of the bed by a few inches by using pillows tends to keep the airways open and prevents an individual from snoring.

External Nasal Dilators: These can be applied on the top of the nose across the nostrils, which will decrease the resistance that the airflow faces while passing through the nose making is easier for the air to flow through the nasal passage and stopping snoring.

Treat Chronic Allergies: These are yet another common cause for snoring. Allergies tend to reduce the airflow while breathing which causes an individual to breathe through the mouth which results in snoring. You can consult with your physician regarding treatment for allergies, which will cut down the snoring significantly.

Correction of Structural Problems in Nose: In case of there is a structural problem with the nose like a deviated septum or if you have had an injury to the nose which may have narrowed the nasal passage, then it may cause the air to get blocked while passing through the nose causing you to snore. Correcting this problem will go a long way in stopping you from snoring.

Avoid Alcohol: It is highly recommended to abstain from alcohol just before going to bed as alcohol relaxes the throat muscles resulting in snoring. It is best if you have to consume alcohol to drink a couple of hours before sleeping.
