Many individuals contemplate as to why Allegra is not effective when taken with fruit juices. Oral consumption of the medicine Allegra implies that it is acted upon by organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs) present in the small intestine. Whenever the drug is consumed with fruit juices, the OATPs are not able to absorb it into the body. Observations reveal that the drug consumption with fruit juice reduces its absorption by about 40%. This makes Allegra less effective in treating symptoms related to allergy.
Therefore, it is recommended to avoid consuming Allegra with fruit juices. It is better not to consume any substance that contains elements of fruit prior to taking Allegra. Doing so makes Allegra quite effective in the treatment of uncontrolled allergic symptoms. Anti-histamines are helpful in treating allergies.
