Out of several therapies for health and wellness; Reiki is known to be one of the healing therapies that is actually a wonderful tool to use as a complement to traditional medicine. Reiki may not be a cure for a disease or illness, however it is something that assist the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing. Reiki is practiced in many hospitals and medical care settings. More about this will be known from the following arrays of the article.

What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?

At the most simplest level, Reiki treatment aids in reducing the impact of stress, releasing tension from the entire body system. Not only the person move towards his or her own unique balance in body, mind and spirit; but also the body's own healing mechanisms often start functioning more effectively when depending on the level of physical health, Reiki begins.

Reiki is actually a Japanese technique for reducing stress and relaxation that also enhances healing. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words, namely "Rei" meaning "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and "Ki" meaning "Life force energy". Thus, Reiki actually is 'Spiritually guided life force energy".

Reiki treatment is administered by "laying on hands". This treatment is based on the idea that "life force energy" flows through us and it is what causes us to be alive. One is more likely to get sick or feel stress if the "life force energy" is low, and if the life force energy is high, one is more capable of being healthy and happy.

Reiki is natural, simple and a safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that anyone can use. A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through and around you. We would know how it works in the following section.

Reiki treatments are done by professional Reiki practitioners. A Reiki treatment requires a quiet setting where you are not disturbed. Most Reiki sessions are between 20 minutes to 90 minutes. You may require up to four sessions depending on your condition and improvement of the condition. It must be mentioned that though most people leave the treatment feeling relaxed and refreshed, they may feel more tired during the evening hours than usual.

How Does Reiki Work?

We are all alive because life force flows through us. Life force flows within the physical body via pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis. It also flows around us or around our physical body in a field of energy known as aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body and supports them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes reduced or diminished function in one or more organs and tissues of the physical body.

The life force is also responsive to thoughts and feelings. When we either consciously or unconsciously accept negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves, the life force gets disrupted. These negative feelings or thoughts attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of our life force. Thus, it diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the body.

Reiki works or heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field. It flows through the affected parts of the energy field and charges them with positive energy. This raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around our physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This in turn causes the negative energy to break apart and gradually fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, straightens and thus heals the energy pathways; thus allowing the natural and healthy flow of life force.
