The relationship which a person has with self is most important in his/her life.(1) Modern-day life demands a lot and can be overwhelming such as running a business, doing a job, looking after the family, participating in social commitments. Whatever the lifestyle demands, make sure you do not burn yourself out to complete it. Taking time out for self is very important.
In the thought of not being tagged guilty or selfish by others, we tend to go out of the way, prioritizing what everyone else needs and neglecting our self. This can leave you stressed, frustrated, and really unhappy. There are a few reasons why having me-time is important for us.
Importance of Me-time
Reduces Stress and Help Unwind
Me-time helps reduce the stress levels and charge up your batteries.
Fulfilling everyone’s needs makes you exhausted and stressed up. Self-care and self-love help give you a calmer mind and able to deal with the challenges in day to day life.
Help You Know More About Yourself
Me-time helps you discover new things about the self that are yet unknown to you as well.
When you are free from all the things, you dwell in the thoughts that make you ponder on self i.e. what you are doing, why you are doing, and any thoughts about the future. It teaches you more about yourself. It also helps you deal with situations in the future.
Makes You Less Dependent On Others
Spending time with yourself not only makes you appreciate your own company but also teaches how you can be less dependent on others as much as you thought you needed to.
This does not mean that you forget all your friends and live in solitude but learn that happiness does not depend on other people.
It is therefore important to enjoy only your company from time to time. Surely this will make you feel more fulfilled.
You Will Never Be Lonely
After feeling the content on having me-time, you will find yourself never being alone.
Feeling lonely at times is fine, but too much of it is bad. You should know how to embrace your own company. This will help you do things yourself and enjoy your company.
Makes You More Creative
It is often seen that creative types lock themselves in isolation to get their minds working.(2)
Being by self cancels all the distractions and gives the mind the chance to wander. You would be surprised to see that spending more time alone makes your creative side flourish and you would turn up with an awesome presentation.
Makes You More Authentic
When you spend time by yourself you get to know yourself better and get more comfortable being the person you are rather than acting up what others want you to be. It makes you more honest with yourself and helps develop a personality, and you need not pretend to be someone else.
You Will Be Able To Serve The Family And The Community Well
Nobody likes a tired, worn out, and resentful version of you.
If you are happy spiritually, emotionally, physically you would never end up empty. You at your best can be best for your family and thereby the community.
This is why me-time is important as it makes you get aware of yourself and be easy and content.
If you don’t respect yourself you would make it hard for others to respect you.
Me-time energizes you and makes you feel healthier and happier person and love and support the people you care about.
When you start giving value to yourself, others will also value you.
