Natural Remedies For MGUS Or Monoclonal Gammopathy Of Undetermined Significance

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance is a benign condition represented by the presence of abnormal protein in blood instead of antibodies. There is no cure for monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance. The natural remedies that can manage MGUS are Curcumin, Allicin and others discussed here.

Natural Remedies For MGUS Or Monoclonal Gammopathy Of Undetermined Significance

The natural remedies that can prevent the progress of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance to cancer-

Curcumin– curcumin is a yellow pigment found in the turmeric, a type of spice. It reduces the levels of paraprotein (M protein). It acts as a blood purifier. It has the potential to kill the cells of cancer. In various research studies, it is found that curcumin can delay or prevent the progress of MGUS to cancer like multiple myeloma.

Allicin– it is found in garlic and is a natural remedy for monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance. It can slow down the progress of MGUS to cancer disease.

Ginger – it acts as a strong agent to kill the cancer cells and is a natural remedy for MGUS. It also helps to lower down the M protein.

Cinnamon-it maintains the integrity of the cells. It does not allow the abnormal production of M protein.

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is a disease that is characterized by the appearance of abnormal proteins namely M proteins or monoclonal proteins or paraproteins in the blood. When the body is all set to fight against diseases, it initiates the production of antibodies in the body. In MGUS, M proteins are produced instead of antibodies. They are produced by plasma cells in bone marrow instead of antibodies. These proteins circulate in the blood. This disease is a slow developing disease that may take years to progress into serious complications like Myeloma, lymphoma, etc. Males above 70 years are more likely to develop this disease.

Most cases of MGUS are without any sign or symptom. This disease is diagnosed accidentally in a blood test done for other conditions. In rare cases, the following symptoms are present-

  • Tingling sensation
  • Numbness due to nerves involvement
  • Weakness in the nerves

Diagnosis Of Monoclonal Gammopathy Of Undetermined Significance

MGUS does not show signs or symptoms in most of the cases. It is diagnosed accidentally when blood tests are done for some other reasons.

Other Blood Tests– complete blood tests are done to find out the count of other blood cells in the patient’s blood

Imaging Tests– imaging tests like X-ray, MRI scan or CT-positron emission tomography helps to determine the condition of the bones abnormalities caused by MGUS.

Urine Tests– the abnormal presence of M protein in the blood may lead to slow damage to the kidney.

Bone Marrow Tests– these tests are done as the M proteins are formed in the bone marrow. These tests are recommended when the patient is at high risk of developing serious complications of MGUS or the patient is having bone lesions, high calcium levels, kidney failure or unexplained anemia.

Treatment For Monoclonal Gammopathy Of Undetermined Significance

MGUS does not represent any sign or symptom. There is no need for treatment. It has slow progress to serious complications such as lymphoma, myeloma, etc. So, it is essential to monitor the levels of M protein to keep an eye on the steady progress of the disease. The doctor recommends frequent check-ups if there is a high risk of development of complications.

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is a benign condition in which abnormal proteins are present in the blood. These proteins are formed due to the defense activities of the body instead of antibodies. It develops in old people of age above 70 years. It does not have a serious impact on the health of a person and does not cause any sign and symptom. It does not require any treatment. This disease has the potential of turning into a cancerous condition such as myeloma or lymphoma. It is important to keep a watch on the symptom of the disease and its progress through regular checkups.
