The exact cause of morning sickness should be diagnosed for proper treatment; an underdiagnosed medical condition may worsen your morning sickness. Medicines for nausea and vomiting can be helpful only in temporary relief until the cause is known and treatment measures for underlying cause are adapted.

It is common for both the genders to experience nausea. In women, nausea and vomiting or morning sickness is often considered as the first sign of pregnancy. It is because of hormonal changes in the body. Apart from pregnancy, there can be a number of factors which can contribute to nausea and vomiting.

Insomnia. It is common for people to experience nauseated if there is lack of sleep or decreased sleep quality. An irregular sleep-wake cycle causes a shift in the body’s neuroendocrine response leading to nausea.

Low Blood Sugar. Improper food habits can also make you feel nauseated as the body has low sugar levels. Having food at long intervals of time makes you low on energy, leaving you to feel dizzy and weak.

Acid Reflux. It happens because the mouth of the esophagus does not close completely resulting in reflux of acid from the esophagus into the throat giving you a sour taste with burps leaving you nauseated. A reclines position during sleep is more likely to be responsible for acid reflux and a nauseated feeling in the morning.

Sinus. Many people might not expect that their sinus can cause an upset stomach and nausea. Sinus congestion causes pressure on the ear resulting in dizziness along with nausea and vomiting.

Postnasal Drips can also be responsible for nausea and vomiting.

Psychological Disorders. Stress and anxiety can be a trigger factor for morning sickness. If a person is comprehensive about an upcoming event, the anxious and stressful situation can put him nauseating.

Alcohol. Consumption of excess alcohol can result in dehydration and low blood sugar resulting in morning sickness.

Food. Eating food which you are allergic to or eating too much of food in breakfast can make you feel nauseated. Having large meals will also be a problem

Gastroparesis. It is a medical condition where all the smooth muscles of the stomach wall slow down which stops passage of food from the stomach into the intestine. Such people will have nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Gallstones. These are formed because of deposition of cholesterol in the gall bladder which eventually harden resulting in pain along with Nausea and vomiting

Side-Effects Of Medications. Few medicines have nausea as side effects by affecting the central nervous system or irritating the gastrointestinal tract. Opioid medications which are indicated for moderate to severe pain can cause nausea and vomiting. It is well-known that people undergoing chemotherapy will also be advised antiemetics as they will have severe nausea and vomiting.

Brain Injury. trauma to head or swelling in the brain can affect the brain center which affects nausea and vomiting.

Gastroenteritis. It is the infection caused by a virus, bacteria, or parasite and is transmitted through contaminated feces, food, or drinking water.

Stomach Ulcers. High acidity results in peptic ulcers. These ulcers can be seen in the lining of the stomach and intestinal tract which causes pain. Increased acidity results in nausea and vomiting.

Constipation. The slow or non-moving intestinal tract also causes nausea

Ear Infection. Vestibular system is responsible for the balancing act if your inner has an infection; the patient feels unbalanced and dizzy and will be nauseated whole day long.

Apart from the above reason consumption of contaminated food will give you an upset stomach, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. The morning sickness can also be because of food poisoning.

Nausea sometimes can also be controlled by simple diet and lifestyle changes such as decreased consumption of alcohol, eating food in small portions avoid fatty food and distress yourself with simple relaxation techniques and meditation. A doctor may prescribe a histamine blocker or proton pump inhibitor.
