What Causes Yellow Toenails?

It is quite often that we see people who have yellow toenails. Both males and females tend to suffer equally from it. Since the toenails are not the most exposed part of the body it may not bother an individual much but still it is a cause of concern because after some time they may start to look ugly. Hence, it is extremely important to find out the cause of getting yellow toenail and get it treated accordingly.

The fundamental cause of Yellow Toenails seems to be toenail fungus or a fungal infection of the toenails. During most part of the day, we wear shoes and socks and if the shoes do not provide good breathing space to the foot then moisture starts to build up around the toenail region which is a perfect breeding ground for fungal infections resulting in Yellow Toenails.

Home Remedies to Get Rid of Yellow Toenails

Lemon: Lemon has properties in it that act as a bleaching agent and is quite effective in getting rid of Yellow Toenails. All you need to do it fill a bowl with water and fresh lemon juice. Soak the toenails into the bowl for about 20 minutes. Then scrub the yellow pigmented area gently from the nails. Repeat this for a few days and eventually you will get rid of Yellow Toenails.

Hydrogen Peroxide: This is yet another effective home remedy to get rid of yellow toenails. Hydrogen peroxide has bleaching properties which can clear away yellow toenails in no time.

Put around two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide in a cup of water. Soak the toenails into the solution for about a minute or so and then scrub the pigmented part of the nails gently with a toothbrush. Doing this at least once a week for a month will help you get rid of Yellow Toenails.

Baking Soda: This is an effective Home Remedy for various conditions and can be effective in getting rid of yellow toenails as well. Baking Soda is also a very good bleaching agent and helps a great deal in cleaning off the yellow color in the toenails.

Mix about three tablespoons of baking soda and one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide in a bowl. Use a cotton ball and apply this mixture on the stained portion of the nails. Leave the mixture for about five minutes and then clean with lukewarm water. Repeat this for about four weeks and eventually you will get rid of Yellow Toenails.

Toothpaste: This is also quite surprisingly a very good Home Remedy for Yellow Toenails. All you need to do is apply a small coating of toothpaste on the toenails and leave it on for about five minutes. Scrub the nails gently using a toothbrush or a bath scrub. Wash the toothpaste off with warm water. Repeating this process for a few weeks will help you get rid of Yellow Toenails

Tea Tree Oil: This is an extremely beneficial Home Remedy for many ailments including Yellow Toenails. This is because it has lot of antifungal properties and eliminates the fungus from the area of the toenails. All you need to do it apply a few drops of tea Tree Oil on the toenails directly and leave it on for a few minutes. Rinse the feet with lukewarm water. You need to do this at least twice daily for best results in getting of Yellow Toenails.
