A peculiar phenomenon about the human body when it comes to storing fat is that it does not distribute excess fat equally among all areas of the body but stores it at one place. In males excess fat gets stored in the abdomen while in females it is the thigh that contains all the excess body fat. Exercising is one good way to strengthen the thigh muscles and get rid of the excess fat, there are also certain foods that one needs to avoid to tone up the thighs and get rid of the excess fat in that area. Read on to know what not to eat to get rid of thigh fat.
Spot Reduction is a Myth
It is well known that there is no diet or exercise regimen which can get rid of excess fat immediately. Trying to lose fat from a specific area of the body is termed spot reduction. Increased amount of fat can collect in a specific area of the body but the only way to get rid of it is by attempting to get rid of all the excess fat in the body and not concentrate on that specific area alone.
Foods to Avoid to Get Rid of Thigh Fat
People wanting to get rid of fat from their thighs should not eat the following:
Get Rid of Thigh Fat by Not Eating Sugar
A person wishing to shed fat from the thighs should cut sugar from their diet. One can have natural sugar, which is present in various fruits and also honey, in small amounts; however, one must totally avoid white or refined sugar to get rid of thigh fat. The body can only use sugar for immediate requirement of energy such as when at a dance party. If the calories from sugar are not burned off immediately, they tend to get stored in the body as fat and in cases of females this fat is mostly stored in the thighs.
Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)
High fructose corn syrup is a less expensive way for food manufacturers to add as a sweetener in their products as opposed to normal sugar. However, this additive is extremely high on fats and gets stored in the thighs. Some researchers are of the opinion that this additive is worse than natural sugar in terms of increasing body fat. So avoiding High Fructose Corn Syrup is a must to get rid of thigh fat.
Say NO to White Foods to Get Rid of Thigh Fat
Generally, it is not advisable to consume any white foods when trying to shed off weight, especially fat from the thighs. White pasta, white rice, white bread, and other foods made of white flour should be avoided as they are loaded with refined carbs. Refined carbs are complex carbohydrates which are converted into simple carbohydrates by removing fiber and other nutritional content from them. HFCS and refined sugar also come under refined carbs. So, technically, foods that are considered to be healthy but have refined sugar or HFCS as one of their ingredients should be avoided to get rid of thigh fat.
Do Not Eat Saturated/Trans-Fats
Saturated/trans-fats are compounds which increase fat content in the body. Fats are of two types saturated and unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats are easily absorbed by the body while saturated fats get stored as excess fat. Unsaturated fats are derived from plants and are really good for overall body health. They also facilitate weight loss if consumed in moderation. Saturated fats however are derived from animals from foods to include pork, beef, butter, and cream. Trans-fats are by-products of adding hydrogen to vegetable oils. So, products which have “hydrogenated vegetable oils” mentioned on their ingredients label, actually contain “trans-fat.” Along with increasing weight, saturated/trans-fats also block arteries and increase levels of bad cholesterol and increased overall risk of cardiovascular illness. So, to get rid of thigh fat, avoid consuming foods high in saturated fats and trans-fats.
