An Overview of Moles or Melanocytic Nevi!

Moles which are medically known as “melanocytic nevi” are benign harmless black or brownish spots or patches in the skin which are normally formed due to collection of melanocytes which are cells which produce a pigment called melanin giving an individual his or her color.

Moles or Melanocytic Nevi as such are totally harmless and are of no concern except when they are present at a spot where they don’t look pleasing to the eye for the individual. Most of the moles tend to appear by the age of 30. While most of the moles are flat there are a few types of moles, which may be slightly raised. They may be present with or without hairs. Factors such as genetics, hormonal balance, and amount of sun exposure play a crucial role in deciding how many moles and at what part of the body may be present.

In some cases, these Moles or Melanocytic Nevi fade away and go on their own as the individual ages, but in some cases these moles may stay forever. In some cases the moles may have peculiar characteristics like irregular borders or there may be a change in color.

This may be a sign of a malignant lesion and thus a consultation with a dermatologist is recommended. Other than this, Moles or Melanocytic Nevi are something which does not require that much of an attention unless they are unsightly. There are treatment options available for Moles or Melanocytic Nevi, but also there are certain Home Remedies for Moles.

It is recommended that if any of the moles have characteristics that may point towards malignancy, then these Home Remedies should not be tried and a consultation with a dermatologist becomes necessary to rule in or rule out a diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan for Moles or Melanocytic Nevi.

6 Best Home Remedies for Moles or Melanocytic Nevi

6 Best Home Remedies for Moles or Melanocytic Nevi

#1 Garlic: This is an ancient Home Remedy for a variety of skin disorders and is equally effective in treatment of Moles or Melanocytic Nevi. Garlic works by breaking down the cells which produce melanin. It also helps in lightening of the skin. All you need to do is place crushed garlic clove on the mole and tape it with a bandage and leave it for a few hours. Remove the bandage and the clove and repeat this daily for a few days.

It is believed that with only a week’s application of garlic on the mole there have been successful results with the mole falling off spontaneously. It should be noted that before application of the garlic clove make sure that the area is completely disinfected by applying disinfectant with an alcohol swab or other disinfectant for best results in getting rid of the Moles or Melanocytic Nevi.

#2 Apple Cider Vinegar: This is yet another effective home remedy for moles or melanocytic nevi. Since Apple Cider Vinegar has acidic properties it promotes scabbing of the mole before it eventually falls off. All you need to do is dip a cotton ball in Apple Cider Vinegar and place it on the affected area. Let the cotton ball remain in place for a few hours preferably overnight. Repeat this process for about a week or until the Moles or Melanocytic Nevi falls off on its own.

It should be noted that Apple Cider Vinegar will make the mole look a lot worse for the initial few days, but then the positive results will start to emerge. It is recommended to apply alcohol swab or petroleum jelly to the area before applying Apple Cider Vinegar for skin protection.

#3 Castor Oil: This is yet another potent home remedy for Moles or Melanocytic Nevi. Castor Oil has properties which enables it to get rid of any skin tags, or raised lesions like a mole. This treatment is extremely effective, but it takes a lot of time for the improvement to take place. Make a paste of some baking soda mixed with some castor oil. Gently rub this paste on the mole and allow it to dry naturally. This needs to be done at least three times a day for a period of about a couple of months for best results.

#4 Flaxseed Oil: Flaxseed oil works by softening up the moles and makes them loose such that they fall off on their own after some time. Flaxseed oil can also be a useful home remedy for Moles or Melanocytic Nevi. You need to mix flaxseed oil with honey and make a paste of it. Apply this paste on the affected area and leave the paste on for at least a couple of hours. Do this at least two to three times a day for optimal results.

#5 Iodine: Iodine triggers natural cell necrosis and eliminates clusters of pigment producing cells. You need to clean the affected area and apply a drop of iodine solution, which you can buy from a drug store. Cover the area with a bandage for a few hours preferably overnight. Repeat this process for a few days until the moles are gone.

#6 Pineapple Juice: Pineapple juice helps in lightening of the skin and lightens up the moles making them fade away to such a degree that they are barely visible. This makes it an effective home remedy for moles or melanocytic nevi. All you need to do is soak a cotton ball in pineapple juice and apply it directly on the mole. Tape the cotton ball with a bandage and leave it on till the juice dries off. You need to do this for at least a week before you see a positive result by getting rid of the Moles or Melanocytic Nevi. Additionally, you can also use lemon, sour apples and grapefruits for this purpose and get rid of the Mole.
