About Bunions:

A bunion is an abnormal bump of bone which is normally located at the base of the big toe at its attachment to the foot. Bunions develop when there is uneven pressure put on the joints and tendons of the foot consistently. This results in the joint of the big toe to get bigger and protrude resulting in development of Bunions.

Bunions are seen more in females than in males. This is because females tend to wear high heeled and narrow shoes which put excessive pressure on the foot causing development of bunions. Certain congenital foot deformities or injuries to the foot can also result in development of bunions.

The development of bunions can cause excruciating pain in the foot and make it difficult for an individual to ambulate normally without pain. It also results in decreased motion of the toe. Along with bunions an individual can have irritated skin around the bunions, erythema, and blisters.
