What is Milia?

Milia, also known by the name of Milk Spots, is a condition characterized by very small yellow colored bumps which tend to appear under the eye region. It is a fairly common problem and mostly seen in newborn children.

These bumps tend to also occur in the forehead, nose, and cheek. These bumps are normally filled with keratin and are totally harmless but do not look good cosmetically. Usually seen in newborn babies, they can also occur in adults as well. If an adult gets Milia, then it may take a long time, to the tune of months to years to completely get rid of Milia.

Milia is caused when the skin is not able to remove dead skin cells resulting in clogging of the pores of the skin. There can be numerous factors that may cause Milia like blister injury, use of steroid creams, and damage caused due to overexposure to sun.

Wet Towel

This is quite an effective home remedy to get rid of Milia. All you need to do is soak a towel in water and wring out the excess water. Put this towel in the area where the Mila cysts are, especially when they are on the face, and let it remain there for about 15-20 minutes. Repeat this process a couple of times. You need to do this daily for a few days in order to get rid of Milia naturally.

Honey

Honey is an excellent home remedy for many medical and skin conditions and is also very effective in getting rid of Milia naturally. All you need to do is spread raw honey on the area of the Milia cyst and let it remain there for about 20 minutes. You need to do this everyday till you completely get rid of Milia.

Rose Water

This is also quite an effective Home Remedy for Milia. Rose Water helps get rid of excess oil in the skin and removes all the dead skin cells. Mix about two tablespoons of sandalwood powder in a bowl of rose water and make a paste of it. Spread this paste on the skin affected by Milia and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Then, wash the area with cool water and pat the area dry. Do this everyday for a few weeks till you see improvement in the cysts caused by Milia.

Pomegranate Peel Powder

This is also an excellent Home Remedy to get rid of Milia. Pomegranate is an excellent antioxidant and has properties which flush out dead skin cells thus improving Milia. All you need to do is roast some pomegranate peels till they become brown in color and become brittle.

Now, crush them and make them into a powder. Take some lemon juice and add it to the powder to make a paste. Gently rub the paste on the area of the Milia for 15 minutes and then wash the face with water. You need to do this a few times a week to completely get rid of Milia.

Castor Oil

Castor oil has antibacterial properties and controls oil production which is why it is very effective home remedy for a number of skin problems, including Milia. All you need to do is just apply some castor oil on to the area of the cysts of Milia until it is completely absorbed by the skin. Do this daily for a few weeks and eventually you will get rid of the cysts of Milia. Alternatively, you can make a paste of baking soda and castor oil and apply it on the affected area in order to get rid of Milia.

Sugar

Scrubbing sugar mixed with lemon juice and olive oil on the affected area for about 20 minutes and then gently washing the area off with water is an excellent home remedy to get rid of milia.
