Many people these days prefer alternative medicines and therapies for curing their problems. Meniere’s disease is no exception to this. Use of the essential oils is one such method by which people are able to get considerable relief from the symptoms without any harmful effects. There are many varieties and brands of essential oils available in the market. It is very essential to use a pure and if possible, an organic essential oil for your condition.

Essential oils if used improperly can cause many undesired effects. Hence, it is essential to use them cautiously. Always do a patch test for sensitivity and allergies before using any oil in huge quantities for your condition. Also, if using any other prescription medications or therapies, always ask your physician for the compatibility of essential oils with those drugs, as you do not want any undesired effects on your body.

There are different types of essential oils used in the treatment of Meniere’s disease. Some of them are given below-

Sweet Basil Oil And Holy Basil Oil. These are both antiseptic oils and help in reducing the vertigo. It is used in an essential oil diffuser or can be inhaled directly from the bottle. Steam inhalation of the essential oil after diluting in water is another great way to get relief from vertigo and Meniere’s disease. This can also be used for sinus infection. While taking steam, be careful not to burn yourself.

Citrus Essential Oils. Lemon, lime, tangerine and sweet orange oils are commonly used for the antimicrobial properties they possess. These oils also help in relieving tension headaches, migraine headaches, dizziness and vertigo problems. Hence, it is very useful in Meniere’s disease. You can use it with the help of oil diffuser or steam inhalation by diluting in water. You can also inhale it directly from the bottle. The dried peels of the citrus fruits can also be used for steam inhalation by boiling in water.

Sage Essential Oil. Sage oil helps in relieving vertigo by balancing the nervous system and reducing anxiety. This oil is also used in conditions like hysteria, seizures and sedation. It is widely used for the treatment of Meniere’s disease. A word of caution here is, this oil can be irritating for the skin. Hence, you should use it with caution and always after doing a patch test on the body. Sage oil can also be inhaled through a diffuser or steam inhalation.

Cypress Essential Oil. Cypress oil is antiviral oil. It relieves sinus congestion and helps in improving blood circulation. It helps in relieving vertigo and hence Meniere’s disease. It can be inhaled through a diffuser and through steam inhalation.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil. Eucalyptus oil helps in sinus congestion as well as vertigo. It is a useful oil for Meniere’s disease. It can also be inhaled through a diffuser or steam inhalation.

Ginger Essential Oil. Ginger oil is very helpful in treating vertigo and dizziness. It increases circulation to the brain thus relieving symptoms of vertigo and thereby providing relief in Meniere’s disease.

Lavender Essential Oil. Lavender essential oil is very helpful in treating dizziness, stress, anxiety and depression. It is also helpful in treating vertigo and hence shows great results while treating Meniere’s disease.

Rosemary Essential Oil. Rosemary essential oil is also helpful in reducing anxiety, depression, stress and fatigue. It can be very helpful in Meniere’s disease, wherein vertigo is triggered by these factors

It is advisable to use essential oils with caution and always use them diluted. They should not be used raw. Also, do a patch test before using any essential oil and if taking any other medicines, do check with your physician about the compatibility of the oils with other prescribed medications. If used cautiously and correctly, Essential oils can be beneficial in the treatment of Meniere’s disease.
