A common eye condition in which you can see nearby objects clearly but, distant objects appear blurred to you, is known as near-sightedness or myopia.
Home Remedies For Near-Sightedness
If you wish to try home remedies for near-sightedness, there are a few options available, which may help in improving your vision. These may include-
Eye Exercises-
Some researches emphasize that eye exercises play a vital role in reducing the progression of near-sightedness as well as managing the condition. Many ophthalmologists suggest eye exercises along with corrective lenses and medication. Eye exercises can be done through yoga as well.(1)
Take Breaks-
If you do a lot of close visual activities like working on a computer, mobile, playing electronic games, reading, writing, etc., it is very important that you give your eyes a much-deserved break by following the 20-20-20 rule.
The rule implies that after every 20 minutes of close visual work, you must look away at 20 feet for at least 20 seconds
This will help in avoiding overstraining of your eyes(1)
Using Ample Light-
Working in areas that are dimly lit, especially while doing close visual work can cause strain over the eyes, resulting in the reshaping of the muscles, which leads to near-sightedness
Make sure to work in an adequately lit workspace
Nutrients-
Vitamins A, D, E and K, mineral zinc and other nutrients are extremely vital for the optimum health of your eyes.
Eating a balanced and healthy diet that includes a lot of greens, leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, carrots, nuts, seeds, fish, etc. can ensure that you get all the required nutrients
Ayurveda-
According to Ayurveda, Triphala (a mixture of beleric myrobalan, Indian gooseberry, and chebulic myrobalan) is extremely essential for the well-being of eyes.
It is prepared by taking dried powders of all three fruits in equal proportions and taking with lukewarm water(1)
Exercises For Near-Sightedness
Since ages, believers have been promoting eye exercises as a natural way to restore vision. There is no substantial scientific backing to these claims; however, these exercises may help in relieving the strain on your eyes thereby making you feel better. These eye exercises may not be helpful in near-sightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and little helpful in cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, etc.
Though these exercises may not be great in improving these conditions, they can still make your eyes feel better, comfortable and relaxed. These may be especially helpful if you get a lot of stress or irritation doing your job. You may want to try a few of these exercises and see if they work for you-
Changing Focus-
This exercise is to be done in a seated position. It challenges your focus. It can be done as follows-
Hold the pointer finger a bit away from your eyes. Focus on the finger and slowly move it away from your eyes in a straight line ahead, all the time making sure to hold your focus. Hold still for a moment and slowly begin to bring the finger back, near to your eyes, holding the focus again.(2)
Near And Far Focus-
This is to be done in a seated position.
Hold the thumb at about 8-10 inches from your eyes and focus on it for about 10 seconds. Keeping the thumb as it is, change your focus to a distant object, roughly about 15 feet away. Focus on that distant object for about 10 seconds. Slowly bring your focus back on the thumb. Repeat.
The Figure Of Eight-
This is to be done in a seating position as well.
Find a place on the floor roughly around 10 feet from you. On the place, trace an imaginary figure of eight with your eyes. Repeat for about 30 seconds. Then change directions.(2)
